Ma droga długa wiodła przez śniegi,

A nie jestem silna ani postawna.

Me ubranie przemoknięte, a zęby zaciśnięte,

Szłam z trudem z daleka i od dawna.

Wędrowałam przez urodzajne ziemie,

Lecz wcześniej nie przyszłam do tego zakątka

W zimnym podmuchu lękam się stać. 

Ten tnący wiatr jest okrutnym wrogiem.

Nie czuję ręki, w mym głosie słychać jęki

I minęło już, co w śmierci srogie,

Bolą mnie bardzo me białe stópki,

Wciąż jest ze mnie panna wiotka.

Och, przenieś mnie przez próg i wpuść do środka!

 

Głos jej był głosem jaki mają kobiety, 

Gdy wyjawiają swych serc pragnienie.

Weszła--weszła--i przez ogień fala przeszła 

Zgasły drżące płomienie.

Nie zapłonęły już więcej w mym kominku

Odkąd pobiegłem by ją spotkać,

Przenieść przez próg i wpuścić do środka!
