This song, like a hyperboloid, focuses all properties  that brought Kipelov to Olymp of alternative music - charisma, expressive vocals, deep lyrics.

Walerij Kipiełow to osoba, bez której nie można sobie wyobrazić rosyjskiej muzyki rockowej. Współzałożyciel i pierwszy frontman legendarnej grupy rockowej "Aria". Jego piosenka "Ja swobodien" to uznany klasyk rosyjskiej muzyki rockowej. Ta piosenka, jak lustro, odzwierciedla cechy, które wyniosły Kipiełowa na szczyt - charyzmę, wyrazisty wokal, głębokie teksty.

 

 

Kipelov, who is 65 years old, has been on stage for more than 43 years. Thirty albums, twenty music videos. Back in 2007 he was awarded the title of one of the founding fathers of Russian Rock Music. His favorite bands and performers are Nazareth, Slade, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Ozzie Osbourne. He also likes the younger bands Muse, Nickelback, Evanescence.

 

Congrats to Kipelov from his fans throughout the former USSR on his 60th anniversary. Gratulacje dla Kipelowa od jego fanów z całego byłego ZSRR z okazji jego 60. rocznicy.

Valery Kipelov: "At first the idea was different - only death makes you free of your obligations and oaths". The poetess implied a soldier who fell on the battlefield".

"Even now I can’t  say for sure about what the song "Ya svoboden" is. There were written two versions of the lyrics, I chose stanzas which I liked and added something of mine. I think these lyrics is likely to be symbolic. The most important thing it conveys is the very state of being free. However, everyone understands the state of freedom in their own way.

 

Ja sam nadal nie jestem pewien, o czym jest piosenka "Ja swobodien". Powstały dwie wersje tekstu, wybrałem poszczególne zwrotki, które mi się podobały i sam coś dodałem. Myślę, że jest to najprawdopodobniej tekst symboliczny. Najważniejszym odkryciem w nim jest stan bycia wolnym". Ale każdy rozumie stan wolności na swój sposób".

 

"I don’t understand all the way what is going on in this song. I haven't been able to explain this whole mysterious plot of the song to myself. So, probably, it’s just a matter of feelings.

 

Nadal nie do końca rozumiem, o co chodzi w tej piosence. Nie potrafię sobie wytłumaczyć  do końca jej tajemniczej fabuły. Prawdopodobnie jest to więc po prostu kwestia emocjonalności".

 

 

"...not enough the song" Ya svoboden" being the music in minor key, so I also sing it with such melancholy. And the point is that  freedom is illusory and inaccessible - every day we are all held back by a lot of circumstances and things we can't but have to do, and every day we dream of achieving this freedom, but it's still in vain. Freedom is an illusory goal that cannot be achieved.

The highest notes struck by Kipelov. The second octave G (the "sol" of the second octave) is its highest note. Najwyższe nuty wydobyte przez  Kipelowa. Druga oktawa G (Sol) jest jego najwyższą nutą.

 

According to Kipelov, the appearance of the  song "Ya svoboden" was one of the reasons for the success of his solo career after breaking up with "Aria".

- What should a creative person avoid so as not to be trapped by himself?

- Czego powinna unikać osoba kreatywna, aby nie zostać sama siebie w pułapce?
 

- You always need to be quite critical of yourself. "That’s it! I’m already at the top, I’ve achieved everything, I’m resting on my laurels, I look down on everyone, that is, there’s nothing left to learn...". This is the main problem of creative people, and then, over the years, you start being aware of the very necessity of refusing anything. I have always believed that a truly strong person is not the one who can afford a lot, but the one who can deny himself a lot. This always was a very priority, central thought for me.

- Zawsze trzeba być wobec siebie dość krytycznym. "To tyle! Jestem już na szczycie, wszystko osiągnąłem, spoczywam na laurach, na wszystkich patrzę z góry, czyli nie ma się już czego uczyć, hm..." To jest główna problem ludzi kreatywnych, a potem z biegiem lat zdajesz sobie sprawę, że z czegoś trzeba zrezygnować. Zawsze wierzyłem, że prawdziwie silną osobą nie jest ten, który może sobie na wiele pozwolić, ale ten, który potrafi sobie wielu rzeczy odmówić. Zawsze była to dla mnie najważniejsza, centralna myśl.

 

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEAVY  METAL AND ROCK MUSIC, HARD ROCK, IN PARTICULAR? JAKA JEST RÓŻNICA MIĘDZY HEAVY METALEM A MUZYKĄ ROCKOWĄ, W SZCZEGÓLNOŚCI HARD ROKIEM?

Heavy metal is characterized by medium or accelerated tempo, vigorous riffs, a central role not only of the frontman'a singer, but also of the lead guitarist, perfectly performing  long and technically complicated guitar solos. Vocals are usually high (tenor, falsetto) and exalted. Valery Kipelov, for example, is known for taking opera singing lessons... almost like a soprano!

Heavy metal charakteryzuje się średnim lub przyspieszonym tempem, energicznymi riffami, centralną rolą nie tylko wokalisty frontmana, ale także głównego gitarzysty, doskonale wykonującego długie i skomplikowane technicznie solówki gitarowe. The concert appearance and clothes of the heavy metal musicians and their fans corresponds to some specific image features, such as long hair, black leather jackets and vests, black t-shirts with the group's emblems, studded belts, iron chains,  spiked wristbands, etc. Sometimes there's a makeup (corpsepaint, warpaint).

 

 

Koncertowy wygląd i ubiór muzyków heavy metalowych i ich fanów koresponduje z pewnymi specyficznymi cechami wizerunku, takimi jak długie włosy, czarne skórzane kurtki i kamizelki, czarne t-shirty z emblematami grupy, paski nabijane ćwiekami, żelazne łańcuszki, opaski z kolcami itp. Czasami pojawia się makijaż (corpsepaint, barwa wojenna).

 

The sign of the horns (mano cornuto) is one of the features of Heavy Metal subculture. That  jettatura (gesture) was made popular by Ronnie James Dio (born Ronald James Padavona) whose Italian grandmom used it as a protection from malocchio (evil eye).

The heavy metal concerts are bright and spectacular, with the use of light and pyrotechnic effects. Koncerty heavy metalowe są jasne i spektakularne, z wykorzystaniem efektów świetlnych i pirotechnicznych.

 

The music of rock'n'roll greatly influenced by black people is dominated by the blues pentatonic scale; there are complex meters that are unusual for Europeans (as well as in jazz, related to the blues, sometimes gospel, funk, soul). In Heavy Metal, the 4/4 time signature predominates, with complete freedom of the melodic solutions.

 

W muzyce rock'n'rolla, na którą duży wpływ miali Czarni, dominuje pentatoniczna skala bluesa; istnieją skomplikowane mierniki, nietypowe dla Europejczyków (tak samo jak w jazzie, powiązanym z bluesem, czasem w stylach gospel, funk, soul). W Heavy Metalu dominuje metrum 4/4, z pełną swobodą rozwiązań melodycznych.

 

Screaming and growling (Heavy Metal Vocal Techniques) 

 

Hard Rock and Heavy Metal sound in a different way. Heavy Metal mostly sounds in minor, rhythm as a rule is  4/4, tempo 190-200 beats per minute, sometimes they use distortion, screaming and growling. But distortions make the lead guitar avoid of many things  which would sound not clear, except for quintas and tertias. But this is not a good reason for thinking that Heavy Metal harmonies are less versatile and  poorer than those of Hard Rock.

 

The Aria's songs "Take my heart" and "Beast" share the same melody, but are recorded with a different rhythmic pattern.

 

 

Piosenki Arii "Woz'mi mojo serce"  ( Weź moje serce) i "Zwier ' " (Bestia) mają tę samą melodię, ale są nagrane z innym rytmem.

 

 

Hard Rock i Heavy Metal brzmią inaczej. Heavy Metal brzmi przeważnie w tonacji mollowej, rytm to z reguły 4/4, tempo 190-200 beatów na minutę, czasami stosuje się distortion, screaming i growling. Jednak distortions sprawiają, że gitara prowadząca unika wielu tego, co brzmiałyby niejasno, z wyjątkiem kwint i tercji. Nie jest to jednak dobry powód, aby sądzić, że harmonie heavy metalu są mniej wszechstronne i uboższe niż te z hard rocka.

 

The girl who could have participated in the program Tu cara me suena (Your Face Sounds Familiar) or, if to be exact Tu voz me suena (Your voice sounds familiar) masterly imitates the way of singing of soloists of the iconic heavy metal groups using various Heavy Metal Vocal Techniques. Heavy metal bands said farewell to the harmonic scheme of the blues in favour of European (British, Scandinavian, German and Slavic) tonality; they turned to baroque music and folk songs, although, of course, they did not forget the "good old" rock'n'roll. But the themes of their songs touches on the wider range of  topics from social to epic, and include the cult of strength and aggression, heroics,  fantasy plots, mythological motifs, love, etc.

Zespoły heavymetalowe pożegnały się z harmonią bluesa na rzecz tonacji europejskiej (brytyjskiej, skandynawskiej, niemieckiej i słowiańskiej); zwrócili się w stronę muzyki barokowej i pieśni ludowych, choć oczywiście nie zapomnieli o "starym dobrym" rock'n'rollu. Tematyka ich piosenek dotyka szerszego zakresu tematów, od społecznych po epopetycznych i obejmuje kult siły i agresji, bohaterstwo,  fantasy, motywy mitologiczne, miłość, i td.

 

The Rock Music's greatgrandfather is jazz, grandfather is the blues, father is rock'n'roll. Heavy metal is born from Hard Rock (Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, The Who) and Classical Music approximately in 1983. Hard Rock and Heavy Metal had even been synonyms for a long time. By the way, Heavy Metal, as concert practice proves, goes well with a symphony orchestra.

 

An epic fantasy-style song sung by Kipelow accompanied by a symphony orchestra. Nevertheless, it is a fragment of a heavy metal concert. Epicka pieśń w stylu fantasy śpiewana przez Kipiełowa z towarzyszeniem orkiestry symfonicznej. Niemniej jednak jest to fragment koncertu heavy metalowego.

 

Pradziadek  Rock Muzyki to jazz, dziadek to blues, a ojciec rock'n'roll. Heavy Metal narodził się z Hard Rocka (zespoły Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, The Who) i muzyki klasycznej mniej więcej w 1983 roku. Hard Rock i Heavy Metal przez długi czas były nawet synonimami. Swoją drogą Heavy Metal, jak pokazuje praktyka koncertowa, dobrze komponuje się z orkiestrą symfoniczną.

 

Thanks to the Aria group and the constellation of its bands, their Universe, Heavy Metal music gained great popularity in Russia. All these groups play and sing  in a good old New Wave style of British Heavy Metal. And this has been going on for decades!

 

Dennis Guzhenko is a representative of the younger generation of heavy metal vocalists, whose vocal power is comparable to that of Kipelov, the patriarch of Russian heavy metal. Jokingly called Kipelov's"son". Dienis Gużenko to przedstawiciel młodszego pokolenia wokalistów heavy metalowych, którego siła wokalna jest porównywalna z siłą głosu Kipiełowa, patriarchy rosyjskiego heavy metalu. Żartobliwie nazywany "synem" Kipiełowa.

 

Dzięki grupie Aria i konstelacji jej zespołów, ich  Wszechswiata, muzyka Heavy Metal zyskała dużą popularność w Rosji. Wszystkie te grupy grają I śpiewają w starym, dobrym stylu Nowej Fali brytyjskiego Heavy Metalu. I to trwa już dziesięciolecia!

Metal is a more modern type of Rock Music. The term of "Rock Music" is a hypernym embracing many styles such as Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Blues Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Art Rock, Glamour Rock, Punk Rock, Symphonic Rock, etc. In its turn Heavy Metal music is subdivided into Death Metal, Doom Metal, Thrash Metal, Glam Metal, Black Metal, Symphonic Black Metal, Gothic Metal, etc.

 

Heavy Metal to bardziej nowoczesny rodzaj muzyki rockowej. Termin "muzyka rockowa" to hipernim obejmujący wiele stylów, takich jak Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Blues Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Art Rock, Glamour Rock, Punk Rock, Symphonic Rock, itp. The music video of "Oxymoron 2"  contains the title of the track in Japanese, which appears in the middle of the song in vertical writing - 矛盾語法 (むじゅんごほうmujiungoho: oxymoron).

Nikita Shatenev: "The song "Oxymoron No. 2" is about co-existence of the seemingly absolutely incompatible things in one person. Such as aggression and tenderness, beauty and moral deformity, cruelty and mercy. Besides, the very composition of the band keeps changing and includes just one permanent person, its  frontman Nikita. Last time of the group was heard in 2022.

Heavy Metal is a branch of the rock music, it evolved from Hard Rock, and its special  feature is  the heavier guitar riffs! The guitar technique of Heavy Metal is more sophisticated, aggressive, but melodies  are simpler and stricter than in Hard Rock music and mostly no longer contain any footprints of the blues.
