Farewell to former self

i envy the man that i once was

the pain feels numb and somewhat distant

the farewell sore was spread across

it swarmed me back like scorching blisters

 

his laid back, arrogant, yet effective

attitude he lost through time

he could not feel the subtle drift

of the person he now has to mime

 

and that's the part that hurts the most

that that's the man that i once was

that it's only me who is to blame

even though i did no wrong

 

and there's the thought that sinked deep in

that it's his joy i'm left to grief

even though that man - was me

and i'm now what he would've been
